How the Classic MagEase Harness came to life
Every dog deserves gear that feels good to wear — and every dog parent deserves gear that feels good to use.
When we began designing the Classic MagEase Harness, we weren’t trying to reinvent dog gear. We were trying to answer a simple question:
Why does something used every single day still feel frustrating, bulky, or unintuitive?
This is the story of how that question shaped every design decision.

Starting with Real Dog Parents, Not Assumptions
Before sketching anything, we listened.
We looked closely at what dog parents were searching for, discussing, and struggling with. The same needs appeared again and again — not trends, but the everyday realities of walking a dog.
What stood out wasn’t a desire for novelty. It was a desire for clarity:
- gear that feels secure without being complicated
- gear that looks good without feeling overdesigned
- gear that works intuitively, even in rushed, real-life moments
This research grounded the process in one principle:
The harness should make daily walks easier, not louder.

Reimagining a Utility-Inspired Silhouette
One structure kept making the most functional sense: the tactical-style harness.
Originally designed for working K9s, it offers excellent stability, control points, and weight distribution. But it wasn’t created for everyday urban dog life.
So instead of copying the form, we asked:
What would this look like if it were designed for daily walks, not duty calls?
This question led us to soften the visual language — cleaner lines, refined proportions, and a more considered palette — while maintaining the functional integrity that made the silhouette appealing in the first place.
Designing Around Real Pain Points
As dog parents ourselves, we focused on moments that quietly frustrate people:
- struggling with buckles in cold weather
- fingers pinched while adjusting straps
- harnesses that feel stiff, heavy, or restrictive
- gear that works in theory but not in motion
We treated these not as small inconveniences, but as design signals.
Every adjustment — from strap placement to padding density — was evaluated through a single lens:
Does this reduce friction in real life?

Fabric Sourcing And Color Swatching
Why We Chose the MagEase® Buckle
The buckle became one of the most deliberate decisions in the entire design.
We wanted something that:
- feels effortless to use
- releases cleanly without force
-
stays secure under real movement and tension
After testing multiple options, we chose the MagEase® magnetic buckle — not because it was “high-tech,” but because it felt intuitive.

It clips on in one clean motion and maintains the structural strength needed for active dogs.
Ease and security weren’t treated as trade-offs. They were designed to coexist.
Refining the Details, Over and Over
Good design is rarely a single breakthrough — it’s an accumulation of small, thoughtful decisions.
Over six months of prototyping, we refined:
- ergonomic shaping for balanced weight distribution
- breathable materials that stay soft against the body
- timeless colors instead of seasonal trends
-
hardware placement that feels balanced, not busy
Each prototype taught us something. Together, they built the final form.
The Result
The Classic MagEase Harness was designed for mornings, evenings, errands, and routines.
For dogs who pull, pause, sprint, and stop without warning.
For humans juggling leashes, bags, weather, and time.

A harness that feels considered — because every moment with your dog deserves thoughtful design.
