Service Dog Harness Review: How MagEase® Saved Gina & Skye

How Gina and Skye Met

Skye came into Gina's life through Northbound Rescue Society.

Before Skye, Gina was navigating physical challenges that made everyday mobility and daily tasks increasingly difficult.

The rescue team understood Gina's physical challenges and knew Skye was a special dog — highly intelligent, agile, and not one they wanted placed just anywhere. After multiple attempts that nearly fell through, they decided to bring Skye to Gina and see how it would go.

Skye arrived in August 2025, and from that moment on, everything began to change. For Gina, Skye didn't just become a companion — she became the reason Gina could physically walk forward again.

Within weeks of getting Skye, Gina began training her. By late September into October, it became clear Skye wasn't just learning or working — she was also building a strong bond with Gina and actively supporting her. By December, Gina was doing something she hadn't been able to do in a long time: she started walking and running again.

One-Handed Operation: How MagEase® Magnetic Buckles Work

As Skye stepped into her service role, the right gear became essential — not just for comfort, but for safety and control. That's when Gina discovered Fei and Eve's Classic Harness with MagEase® Buckles.

Unlike traditional plastic side-release clips, the MagEase® buckle uses two magnets to guide the halves into alignment, then a side-release lock engages to hold them in place. The magnets do the work of putting it on; the lock keeps it on. From the very first use, the magnetic system stood out to Gina.

"The magnetic buckles blow my mind. I still, no matter where I go or who I'm talking to, will tell people this has got to 450 pounds of pull. I'll never find anything easier than that."

With limited dexterity in her right hand, traditional buckles and clips often turn simple tasks into frustrating or painful challenges. The magnetic system changed that experience entirely. It wasn't just about strength or durability — it was about ease. Being able to secure Skye quickly, with one hand, meant less strain, less time, and more independence in daily routines.

Dual Handles for Service Dog Support and Safety

The dual reinforced handles quickly became one of Gina's most important features — especially during training and daily routines like stretching, walking, and maintaining balance. The structure and grip gave her a sense of security and support she hadn't experienced before.

"Those handles are a dream and an absolute necessity. I need that handle, that thickness, that security because Skye is a stocky breed."

As Gina continued incorporating Skye into her daily life, the handles became something she relied on constantly — not just during mobility work, but in unexpected moments too. The handles even proved useful when lifting Skye in and out of taxis, or during harsh Connecticut winters when deep snow left Skye stuck during walks.

"It's funny because those handles actually allowed me to lift her, at 54 pounds, out of the snow because she got stuck. It was hysterical and it actually happened twice."

From everyday support to high-stress situations, the harness became something Gina could consistently rely on. For her, the Fei and Eve harness wasn't about appearance or convenience — it became an essential part of daily life with Skye.

When Everything Was Put to the Test

While most of their life together is defined by routine and progress, there was one moment where everything was put to the test. As Gina and Skye were walking down a grassy hill near her property, an aggressive German Shepherd–type dog suddenly attacked them. The situation escalated in seconds, with the dog lunging directly for Skye's neck.

At that moment, Gina didn't hesitate.

"This harness saved her life and mine. That dog was foaming at the mouth, and if it really got Skye's neck, she would have gone out."

Using the dual handles, Gina lifted Skye off the ground and pulled her in close, physically shielding her from the attack. Skye, a trained service dog, didn't react or fight back. She trusted Gina completely and leaned into her. That trust, combined with the control the harness provided, prevented the situation from becoming more dangerous.

Skye walked away with only a minor injury near the edge of the harness where she was lifted. The harness itself remained fully intact with no damage.

"This harness, honestly, is a godsend — and not just for that day. I have not had to struggle to get it on her, and she almost always has it on, even at home."

More Than a Service Dog

"She gave me my life back," Gina said. "I have service patches on her, but I also gave her the little patch — the one that comes along with the Fei and Eve name on it."

Today, Skye is more than a service dog — she's a trusted and loyal companion. From walking without assistance to rebuilding strength and confidence, Skye continues to be the steady force that keeps Gina moving forward. Their bond isn't just emotional — it's functional, physical, and deeply rooted in trust.

Gina continues to train with Skye every day, pushing her limits carefully, with Skye right there to guide and support her. And while no product is ever perfect, Gina sees something rare in what she's using:

"This is as close to perfect as it gets right now."
